Gender Reveal Fiesta!

A couple of months ago when I started thinking about what to do our gender reveal, I knew almost immediately that I wanted to do something a little different. I knew it would be late June when we found out the gender at our mid-pregnancy anatomy scan, so I wanted it to be bright, fun, + summery!

So, I got to Pinterest-ing at some ideas I had saved of fiesta themed birthday parties and I thought “WHY can’t we do this for our gender reveal?!”  It wasn’t overly baby-fied, it was a summer theme, and it encompassed my now 21-week-craving for all things Mexican food. Give me some chips and salsa and/or a taco and I’m good to go! 😉

While my husband and I were looking at invitations, I randomly blurted out “LET’S TACO BOUT THE SEX!” and that ended up being the tagline for our gender reveal. Our guests got a good laugh out of that!

So fast-forward a few weeks of planning, DIYing, and daydreaming about our baby’s gender…. we found out last week what we were having and decided to keep it a BIG secret until our gender reveal. We told NO ONE! It was kind of nice and special to be the only ones who knew for the 4 days leading up to the party! But our families were for sure on pins & needles all week and trying to bribe us to tell them, but we didn’t cave!

We held our gender reveal fiesta this past weekend, and had about 30ish of our closest family + friends there. It meant so much to us to have everyone there to celebrate with us.

Now for the good stuff… THE PHOTOS! Amanda took these for me and I’m so glad she was able to capture these moments for us.

Our taco bar was the stuff (my) dreams are made of… We had all the toppings you’d need for a good taco… complete with chips & salsa from a local Mexican restaurant!

My Mom was a baker in her former life and is so talented. I enlisted her to make cactus cupcakes because I knew our fiesta would be incomplete without them. How cute are they?! And the best part is the flavor of the cupcakes was CHURRO… be still my heart!

And now for the big reveal… IT’S A GIRL!!!!!!!!! I’m still in disbelief. Seeing our baby last week and hearing that she’s growing perfectly and right on schedule was the most exciting part… the gender is just the cherry on the sundae, so to speak. We are so excited to meet our girl in November.

We made our piñata using this tutorial from DIY Network. My mom and dad cut it out of cardboard, and with the help of my mom and mammaw, we covered it with fringed crepe paper… and THEN Matt & I stuffed it with pink confetti and tissue paper. It was quite the project, but a total necessity for our fiesta!

I love this photo! Amanda on the left, me, and then my 3 oldest friends (like going on 20 years of friendship with those 3). I can’t wait to see my friends with my baby. It will be such a “full circle” moment for me.

We had a great time. I’m almost positive that confetti makes everything better, don’t you agree?!

Styling a Gathering | Preparation is Key

Inspiration board summer gathering

Marrissa and I like to give our readers an idea of what to expect when they attend a Wild Revival Gathering. Hosting is fun, but can be a real downer if no one comes out for your event. Sharing our inspiration board with our potential guest helps build up excitement,  lets them know what to expect out of the evening and helps us prepare. It’s time well spent!

Our first gathering of the summer will be a simple evening of succulent planting with lemonade + cupcakes. We will gather around picnic tables by the lake, paint plant pots and fill them with our succulents. We will provide the potting soil, paints, brushes, snacks + drinks for the evening. We ask that guests bring their own succulents (you can buy them at Lowe’s or Home Depot)) along with small terracotta pots of your choice. This gathering is a way for us to get back around the table with you and we’re looking forward to it! If you would like to attend, please register here!

Inspiration board

Our inspiration for the night was boho summer. The evening is going full of boho touches, with bright colors and simple decor. Nothing over the top! We aim to keep the nights decor achievable, the goal is to provide the ladies who attend inspiration to hold their own gatherings. Marrissa and I both have busy lives with little time or money to invest in decor for every style gathering we host. We have a few staple pieces you will see us use at each gathering.

Gathering your friends and join us for a fun evening on May 21st! Follow this link to register.

‘Hosting with Heart’ | eBook

We are SO excited to release our very first e-Book entitled Hosting with Heart, and it’s coming to you TODAY — just in time for the holidays! This sweet and simple guide will encourage you to focus on what matters most when gathering people around a table.

For us, gatherings are the heart and soul behind The Wild Revival. The sense of community and unity we feel when we bring people together has been so life-giving for us, and it has been so worth our time. Hosting is about so much more than just the food + decor. It’s about creating a space where the walls can come down and people can be heard.

We hope to point you towards creating a relaxed atmosphere centered around connection and heritage rather than perfection and stress. We have truly shared a big piece of our hearts with you in Hosting with Heart and we envision you printing it out and fumbling through the pages as you stand in your kitchen preparing for you next dinner party or get-together.

Hosting with Heart also includes a delicious recipe we’ve made and served to our guests at our gatherings. And don’t even get us started on how beautiful the photos are in the eBook! Go see for yourself! This labor of love means so much to us and we hope it inspires you this holiday season. Follow this link to download your FREE copy today!

This is going to be a lot of fun! Bring yourself (and a friend!) and join us for our holiday gathering! We want to get more women involved in our gatherings.

Autumn Evening | Fall Dinner Party

When we started The Wild Revival, we had this vision of holding gatherings. Hosting an Autumn Evening has been on our heart for awhile. Our purpose behind it all is to bring together a community of women who can honestly share in life experiences with one another, have a little fun, and forget about the stresses of life for a while. We said we wanted to create a space for women to feel comfortable, accepted, and worthy of good things. We knew we wanted the table to be the focal point of these gatherings. And now, after hosting 3 of them in 8 weeks, we can truly say that magic is happening, and it’s happening around the table.

Our love and passion for life around the table didn’t start with The Wild Revival; it started with our families and the many traditions we had growing up. Sunday dinners, birthday parties, impromptu get-togethers…they all took place around someone’s table. Tables that likely had scratches, dents, imperfections, mismatched chairs and dishes, and were always overflowing with amazing recipes passed down from older generations. What we remember most when we recall our upbringings though, isn’t necessarily the food. It was the people, the conversations, the hugs, the peptalks, and the roaring sounds of laughter. No matter what was going on in our lives or in our families’ lives, we all put EVERYTHING on pause to be together. That sense of unity we felt when gathered around a table was our safe zone. And we are striving to recreate it in our adult lives… and we want you to be a part of it.

Something happens when you invite someone into a space where all they have to do is be present. A place they can just show up to and sit down; where they can stop running around like crazy, bouncing from thing to thing, and just be. We live in a society that glorifies busy, better, faster. But sitting at that table, eating and taking in the simplicity of life in that very moment is both nourishment for the body + the soul, and it revives something in us that feels lost at times. The table, we feel, is when walls tend to come down, the masks come off, and the conversations start to flow. And when the people at the table don’t all necessarily know each other, we’re dedicated to finding that common ground among a group women.

Earlier this month, we held a private dinner party for a small group of our girlfriends. This night is one that we would like to relive over and over. It was a great evening filled with women we love. This night made us think about the stories we are all writing and telling with our lives. We are women who are chasing + building dreams, women who are busy, struggling, and loving on others through it all. Seeing it all come together was kinda magical. But was it the food that made it magical? The outfits we had on? The table setting? Yes and no to all of those things on some level. But what really made it so special was the people we had there, laughing, and telling stories as the sun went down and the cool fall breeze crept in. Those things make moments like this so much more magical than all of the perfectly planned out details ever could.

*** And now for our big news! . . .

In November, we will be releasing our very FIRST eBook, entitled “Hosting with Heart.”  It will be a curated guide to life around the table, and will include recipes, tips + stories of how we intentionally host our guests with a lot of heart + soul. We hope you will download it, print it out, and use it during the holiday season to create an atmosphere of connection around your tables. We can’t wait for you to see it!

Flower Crown Tutorial

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

We
have been dreaming of making flower crowns for months now. Our Pinterest is
filled with images of these ethereal gems. In true ‘Wild Revival’ fashion: it
was time to stop talking and start doing. So we gathered our (very short list
of) supplies and went down to the lake and got busy.  We hope that this
simple tutorial will help you bring this fun DIY to life.

Tools:

  • Flowers
  • Greenery
  • Kitchen Scissors
  • Floral Wire
  • Floral Tape

We purchased our floral tape and wire from a local craft store.
Your flowers can be right out of your garden or from a local flower shop. There
is no wrong way to go with the type of flowers and greenery you choose to use
in your crown. It’s whatever you like!

Instructions:

1) Wrap the floral wire around your head to
find out what size your crown should be. Keep in mind the crown will
become more snug as you add your greenery and flowers, so be sure to keep a
(little) bit of space when measuring your crown. Once you determine the most
comfortable fit, cut off the excess wire. Twist the end and tuck the wire,
covering the wire crown in floral tape.

2)  Now you will cover your wire in
your chosen greenery. We found the thinner branches of greenery worked best,
due to them being easier to manipulate. Tape your greenery onto the wire as you
go. This part can be tedious, but so worth it when it’s all done!

3)  Now for the fun! Once all your
greenery is secured, you can add your flowers. Make sure to leave 2-3 inch
stems when cutting your chosen blooms. You will place your flowers one at a
time, taping as you go.  Make sure you wrap the tape 3 times around your
blooms, trying your best to avoid your greenery leaves as you go.

Fill your crowns with as many or
as little blooms as you wish.  Flower crowns always come out looking fun +
whimsical. We feel that you can never have too much whimsy in your life.
